Harran is one of the world's oldest cities, and was the home of the prophet Abraham/Ibrahim, as referenced several times in the Bible. Later an important stop on the Silk Road, Harran has been an important centre since Mesopotamian times. Due to the hot climate here, the city has become known for its "beehive homes", which have a high domed roof and thick walls built from mud, specially designed to keep cool inside. Harran is also well known for its blue fabrics.
The ancient city of Soğmatar, which is narrated as the place where the Prophet Moses lived in Şanlıurfa, attracts attention with its numerous rock tombs, wells and caves.
Göbeklitepe, the work of a great organization and imagination, is the zero point of history in many ways beyond the oldest monuments and firsts of this size. At a time when man lived as a hunter gatherer, it was surprising all over the world to build temples that require advanced architecture. The temples, enriched with animist figures, reflecting the world of faith of the prehistoric man, have made Göbeklitepe one of the most important discoveries in the history of archeology.
